Super Mario Bros. Crossover v3.02 – Classic Mario Levels With Famous NES Heroes
Super Mario Bros. Crossover takes the familiar levels of the original Super Mario Bros. and lets you play them with characters from several classic games. Mario remains available, but you can also enter the Mushroom Kingdom with heroes such as Link, Mega Man, Samus, Simon Belmont, Ryu Hayabusa, Bill Rizer, and other characters.
The important part is that these heroes do not simply look different. Each one keeps abilities based on the game they originally come from.
Every Character Changes the Level
Mario handles the course in the familiar way. He runs, jumps on enemies, and uses traditional Mario power-ups.
Choose Link and the same stage feels different because he fights with weapons from The Legend of Zelda. Mega Man can attack enemies with his arm cannon. Bill from Contra uses ranged gunfire. Ryu brings sword attacks and his wall-climbing skills.
These abilities change how you approach Goombas, Koopas, blocks, pipes, gaps, and other parts of the original stages.
An enemy that Mario normally needs to jump on can sometimes be attacked from a distance with another character.
This gives familiar levels new solutions.
Version 3 Adds Much More Content
The 3.0 generation of Super Mario Bros. Crossover greatly expands the game. It includes levels based on Super Mario Bros. Special along with different versions of maps for the difficulty settings. The developer describes the 3.0 release as having 192 levels when these variations are counted.
Character skins and map skins add another layer of choice. You can change the appearance of characters and make stages resemble graphics from different classic games and systems.
The music can also change to match the character and skin you select.
Basic controls remain easy to learn. The arrow keys handle movement. Z handles jumping. X attacks, while another key can activate special abilities depending on the selected character.
The real attraction comes from experimenting.
Playing World 1-1 with Mario feels like traditional Super Mario Bros. Playing that same area with a character who can fire weapons or climb walls creates a different challenge.
Super Mario Bros. Crossover v3.02 turns one famous platform game into a collection of different play styles. The stages may look familiar, but changing characters, skins, difficulty settings, and map styles gives you plenty of reasons to play them again.
