Flakwing: Upgrade Your Aircraft and Fight Through 18 Missions

Flakwing is a vertical air-combat game that combines fast arcade shooting with aircraft upgrades like Sky Force, challenging boss battles and a full campaign. Take control of a fighter plane, dodge enemy fire, rescue stranded pilots and collect stars to strengthen your equipment.

The campaign spans 18 missions across three chapters. Each operation brings a different battlefield and increasing enemy pressure, taking you from tropical islands and desert airfields to industrial complexes, fortified harbors and a volcanic reactor facility.

Your cannon fires automatically, allowing you to concentrate on movement, positioning and special weapons. Getting through the campaign takes more than holding down fire: you need to choose when to attack, when to retreat and which upgrades to buy before your next sortie.

Explore 18 Different Battlefields

Flakwing’s campaign moves through three chapters, each containing six operations. The scenery changes as you advance, giving every mission its own setting.

Early flights take place above island chains, sandy terrain and frozen landscapes. Later operations lead through dam canyons, jungle rivers, generator facilities and military harbors. The final chapter brings more demanding environments, including scorched badlands, a coastal fortress and a devastated metropolis.

The mission objectives also introduce new challenges. Some encounters involve destroying generators, dealing with missile interference or responding to dangerous special attacks. You need to pay attention to the battlefield as well as the enemies directly ahead.

Choose Your Aircraft

Three aircraft are available as you build your fleet.

Falcon

The Falcon is your starting fighter, offering balanced firepower and handling. It gives you a dependable aircraft for learning movement, collecting stars and beginning your upgrade progression.

Spectre

The Spectre provides a different set of aircraft bonuses and handling characteristics. Unlocking another plane gives you more options as you prepare for tougher operations.

Warthog

The Warthog is a heavy-assault aircraft with increased armor and firepower. Its strengths become especially useful in the later campaign, where enemies take more punishment and boss fights demand stronger equipment.

Aircraft unlocks use stars earned through play. You can return to earlier missions to collect more currency and develop your fleet before tackling the next challenge.

Build a Stronger Plane With Six Upgrade Systems

Upgrades are central to Flakwing’s progression. Each of the six systems has 20 ranks, allowing you to improve your aircraft over many sorties.

UpgradeWhat It Improves
Main CannonShot damage, firing output and additional firing lanes
ArmorMaximum hull strength
Homing MissilesGuided missile damage and reload performance
Star MagnetThe distance from which stars are collected
AfterburnerMovement speed and pilot-rescue efficiency
Autonomous WingmenSupporting fire from combat drones

Upgrade prices reflect the strength of the next improvement. Major unlocks cost more than smaller increases, so deciding where to spend your stars matters.

Later missions place greater demands on your equipment. Certain operations have minimum deployment requirements, and the final campaign mission requires the Warthog equipped with every upgrade system fully developed.

Face Bosses and Stronger Enemy Forces

Enemy pressure increases as you progress. Expect faster attacks, tougher opponents and less room for careless movement.

Regular enemies include aircraft, helicopters, tanks and gunboats. Mission-specific threats can add generators, jammers and other obstacles to the battle.

Boss encounters require you to recognize attack patterns and find safe openings. Some fights introduce protective systems or environmental threats that must be handled before you can concentrate on the main target. Staying mobile and saving special weapons for the right moment can make a significant difference.

Unlock Medium and Hard Difficulty

Every campaign mission begins with Easy available. Completing it unlocks Medium for that operation, and completing Medium unlocks Hard.

Difficulty progression is tracked separately for each mission. You can revisit familiar battlefields at a higher tier as your equipment improves, or replay an earlier unlocked difficulty to earn more stars.

This gives you a reason to return to completed operations and test how much stronger your aircraft has become.

Rescue Pilots and Use Special Weapons

Stranded pilots appear inside rescue beacons. Stay within a beacon long enough to complete the rescue while keeping an eye on approaching enemies and projectiles.

You also have access to limited special weapons:

  • Mega Bomb: Use it during dangerous moments to deal damage across the battlefield.
  • Energy Shield: Protect your aircraft when avoiding every incoming attack becomes difficult.
  • Laser Beam: Deliver a powerful attack once the required cannon upgrades unlock laser charges.

Upgrades can increase your available special-weapon charges. Managing those charges is part of preparing for a successful flight.

Try Daily Sortie and Survival

Beyond the main campaign, Flakwing includes two additional modes.

Daily Sortie offers a seeded flight plan tied to the day. Bring your current aircraft and upgrades, then work toward a better personal score.

Survival removes the campaign finish line and increases enemy pressure over time. Stay alive, collect rewards and see how far your equipment and flying skills can carry you.

How to Play Flakwing

Your main cannon fires automatically. Move your aircraft to avoid attacks, line up targets and collect useful items.

On mobile, drag directly across the battlefield to steer. You can move with one finger and activate an on-screen special weapon with another. The bottom control bar also provides settings and fullscreen controls.

Tips for New Pilots

Keep moving, but avoid rushing into a crowded section of the battlefield just to collect a star. Surviving longer gives you more opportunities to earn rewards.

Balance your upgrades. Stronger weapons help you destroy enemies sooner, while better armor gives you more room to recover from mistakes. Movement and collection upgrades can also make difficult sorties more manageable.

Replay earlier missions when your equipment falls behind. Stars collected during a defeated sortie are banked, so an unsuccessful attempt can still help you prepare for your next flight. Manually aborting a sortie, however, forfeits its unbanked stars.

Progress Saved in Your Browser

Flakwing saves your stars, owned aircraft, upgrades and campaign progress in your browser. Return using the same browser and website to continue developing your pilot.

Mission medals, personal scores and combat statistics give you additional goals as you work through the campaign, unlock higher difficulties and prepare for the final operation.
