A Shooter Where You Become the Bullet

Grey Matter changes one of the basic rules of a shooting game. Your character does not fire normal bullets at approaching enemies. Your character acts as the weapon. To destroy an attacker, you need to move directly into its exposed brain while avoiding the dangerous parts around it.

Enemies can attack with flashing bullets, teeth, tails, lasers, and other hazards. Touching the safe target destroys the enemy. Hitting the wrong part can hurt you instead. This makes every attack a mixture of aiming and dodging.

Grey Matter uses a top-down view. Enemies approach from around the play area, which means danger can come from several directions. The player needs to find the exposed target, move in for the hit, and get away from nearby attacks.

Learn the Movement Controls

Use the arrow keys to move. Press Space for a boost. Holding Shift slows your movement and gives you finer control. Press P or Escape to pause the game and open the upgrade screen.

Slowing down helps when the screen fills with small targets and enemy attacks. Boosting works better when you see a clear route toward an exposed brain.

Points earned during play can go toward upgrades. Shields improve your protection, while other upgrades change your abilities. Players can open the upgrade menu during a run instead of waiting for a separate level screen.

Create a Trinity Attack

Grey Matter also rewards players for choosing enemies in a specific order. Destroy three enemies of the same type in a row and the game creates a Trinity Attack. A triangle forms between those three defeated enemies. Everything caught inside that triangle gets destroyed.

Trinity Attacks also raise the score multiplier. A higher score gives the player more points to spend on improvements. This means the order of attacks matters. Destroying the nearest enemy may keep you safe, but targeting three matching enemies can create a much larger attack.

Later stages become crowded with projectiles and aggressive enemies. Some attackers can only fire while facing the player, so approaching from another direction can create a safer opening. Completing the game can also unlock additional modes.

Grey Matter combines dodging, direct attacks, upgrades, and score planning. Instead of standing back and shooting, the player must enter dangerous spaces and strike the exact weak point.
