The play area is filled with fish carrying different numbers. Values such as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 can appear around the underwater scene. Two numbers are presented for the current turn, and the player has to think about what answers can be made by applying the available operations.
Suppose the two numbers shown are 3 and 4. Adding them produces 7, multiplying them gives 12, and subtracting 3 from 4 produces 1. Those answers can then be compared with the numbers on the fish. Rather than being given one fixed equation, the player has to explore several possibilities and decide which result is useful.
That freedom is one of the strongest parts of Fishy Numbers. A normal maths problem might simply ask, “What is 3 × 4?” Here, the player has to recognize that multiplication is only one possible choice. The game also supports two players. The current player’s turn is displayed clearly, and each player has a separate score. Fish that have already been claimed are marked in different colors, so the board gradually changes as the match continues. This gives the activity a friendly competitive element and encourages players to search carefully for remaining opportunities.
There is also an option to skip a turn, which becomes useful when a player cannot find a suitable move. Because the available fish change as numbers are claimed, the game involves a small amount of strategy in addition to calculation.
